Du'a

These past few days I have been feeling quite under the weather, sneezing has always been a norm but having it together with a light stroke of fatigue made it a bit fishy. So I started to stay in my room to have more rest only to find myself getting sicker by the moment.

We usually hear people say that getting ill is a sign that Allah is cleansing you of your past sins. I'm not saying that I don't believe it, rather I say that it's a choice that we have to make either to have it cleanse us or  make it darken our souls even worse. Maybe having a flu or a fever seems like something too little to compare when you put it next to cancer or brain tumours, but believe me, if a person takes ibrah over these illness Allah has inflicted upon them, insyaAllah it is a means of purification towards the soul.

Now together with illnesses, we often come upon du'a - well we make du'a almost everyday - asking from others to pray for our well-being. And we would often pray for others when they fall ill too hoping that they would get back up on their feet and insyaAllah, may Allah provide the best for them. Du'a is a very important element in a Muslim's life, in fact it is one of our strongest weapon that goes beyond any physical means of weaponry. It is something abstract and most definitely is something that we cannot see. The du'a of a mother is ever so powerful towards the well-being of her child as well as the du'a of the oppressed towards it's oppressor.

However to what extent do we believe in the power of a du'a?
(Okay, now it sounds like a KI for a ToK presentation)

It all comes back to our faith that the du'a is accepted and in order for a du'a to be accepted, we need to forge ourselves to be the best of Muslims. And even if our du'a is not manifested now, it is kept safely for a better time and moment which is only known by Allah for it to truly show itself and when that time comes, subhanallah, it is the best of time I can ensure you. It's like the case with Masyitah RA. She had doubts at first when one by one her family members got toss into boiling water by the Pharoah, but once her baby said,

"O mother, be patient. The torture of the hereafter is far more severe than the torture of this life, and do not be reluctant, because you are right."

She snapped out of her doubts and believed in Allah's promise that this will definitely pay off in the hereafter, in Jannah.

But getting sick is not the only time you purge yourself to get on the praying mat and pray
Nor is it a time for you to lay on the bed hoping for a miracle to happen
This manner of praying to Allah should be carried out all the time
Daily in our five prayers and in all the things we do
We begin and end with prayers
So that everything we do, we get the benefit of it
Not only in this world but also in the hereafter.

So insyaAllah, may this be reminder to me especially that sickness is a norm and prayers are powerful. So use them wisely, all the time, with a mind and heart that believes in Allah, the One who grants and answers prayers.
